How The Hand pan Helped Me To heal Grief and Trauma

Updated: Nov 20

The hand pan is a steel drum with a unique sound that can calm the inner storm. I know this from personal experience. I lost my mother to metastatic breast cancer on May 27th, 2020. I was heartbroken, angry and deep in grief.

In the months that followed her death, I found myself struggling to get out of bed some days. I turned to alcohol and drugs to numb the pain. I was desperate to find a way to cope with my grief.

One day, I had a dream in which my mother came to me. She told me that I needed to get a Gong. The next day, I went out and bought my first Gong. From there, I was led to become an Accredited Sound Healing Practitioner. As I was getting my certification in sound healing, I fell in love with the sounds/vibration from the Hand pan. I learned to play and then wrote and released my first song, Calming the Inner Storm.
